Find The Perfect Radio:

Radio System FAQ

How can I have my gear doors open and close automatically before/after my gear and also move more slowly, more scale?

There are a variety of ways to accomplish this challenging setup. The particular approach outlined below takes 2 switches. The momentary on (trainer switch) will be used to open the gear doors immediately before the gear is lowered; the gear switch will lower the gear, raise the gear and raise the doors.

We're going to use throttle delay to make your gear doors open and close slowly, giving your gear time to go up/down.

Plug in your servos as follows:

  • Throttle servo to channel 8
  • Gear servo to channel 5
  • Doors servo to channel 3 (throttle)

First, pmix GEAr to THRottle, 100% both ways, link off, offset 0, switch null. Now the channel 3 servo (gear doors) move in unison with retracts.

The gear door servo (channel 3) moves with the throttle stick, so PMIX THRottle to THRottle, -100% each way, link off, offset 0, switch null.

Turn on throttle needle mixing. Leave the percent alone. Now when you move the throttle stick, the channel 8 (throttle servo) moves perfectly.

Go to throttle delay and set it at 50%. Now when you move the gear switch, gear raises and lowers quickly, and then the gear doors move slowly behind them.

By now you've noticed that the gear doors are always slower than the gear....including opening....BAD idea. So, pmix offset to channel 3 100%, link off, switch F down. This unfortunately isn't far enough, so again pmix offset to channel 3, 100%, link off, switch F down. Also go to timer (in the basic menu) and set it to 00:05 down switch F down.

Now, let's try what we have. First, move your throttle stick. Your throttle servo should move normally, even though it happens to be plugged into channel 8.

Now, your gear is currently DOWN when the switch is toward you. Push the gear switch. Notice the gear comes up quickly, the doors close behind slowly.

Want to put the gear back down? Pull your F switch (the momentary on trainer switch), and don't let go of it until the timer stops. Then let go of it and immediately flip your gear switch. Now your doors went down, and then your gear went down.
