Find The Perfect Radio:

Radio System FAQ

I think the preset mixes and things in my 8U are really nice! But I want to operate my (name function here, for example, flaps), from a switch not the knob on the front of the transmitter. How can I do that?

Moving a function from one location to another is one of the really great capabilities of the 8U radio. To move a feature from a knob to a switch requires two mixes. Let's do an example now, where we have flaps plugged into channel 6 and want to turn off the knob and work them by switch H.

___ 1. First, plug in your flap servo to channel 6 on the receiver and turn on the receiver and transmitter.

MIX 1:
___ A. Press the 2 Advanced Menu keys together to open the advanced menu. Press the Mode UP (top left button) until your screen says PMIX-1. (Note: if you're already using PMIX one for something else, arrow up to an open PMIX.)

___ B. Notice the INH flashing on the left side of the screen. That means the mix you're working on is inhibited or turned completely off right now. Turn this to off by pressing the + key (upper right). On should now be blinking.

___ C. Press the arrow over or cursor button (top center) so that the channel name on the lower left is flashing (usually AIL). Press the plus key (top right) until OFS is flashing.

___ D. Press the arrow over button (top center) so the lower right channel name is flashing (usually RUD). Press the plus key until it says FLP (flap).

___ E. Press the arrow over button (top center) so you are now on the % screen. Set the % to how much you want your flaps to drop, remembering negative is down. Not sure how much you want? Set it to -100% for now, and play with it later to get the amount of throw you need.

___ F. Turn Link ON if the function you are moving has something else mixed to it. For example, if you are using flaperons you MUST turn link on. (See this definition of link.)

___ G. Press the arrow over button (top center) to the switch setting position. Press the + key until it says SW-H (switch H). Arrow over (top center key) so NULL is blinking. Press the + key until it says "DOWN". Notice the screen on the left side now says OFF. Try moving the H key toward you and see the flaps drop and the screen switch to on?! COOL, EH?

2. Now you need to decide. Do you want to be able to trim the flaps from knob channel 6 on the radio? If so, leave it alone, we're done! If not, if you want to turn this knob off, you need to complete these steps as well.

___ A. press the up arrow key (top left) to PMIX 2.

___ B. press the + key to turn the mixer on.

___ C. arrow over and then press the plus key until the first channel name says FLP (flap).

___ D. arrow over and then press the plus key until the second channel name says FLP (flap).

___ E. arrow over to the % screens. Notice there are now a left and right percent. Turn the CH 6 knob all the way to the left, then press the - key until this percent is -100. Turn the ch 6 knob all the way to the right, then press the - key until the percent is -100.

THAT'S IT! You've now disabled the knob.
