Radio System FAQ

I want to use twin aileron servos (flaperons) on my 8U Super with a 5 channel receiver, so my second servo must be plugged into channel 5 not channel 6. How do I do that?

This will require 2 steps.

1. First you must go into parameters and tell it to look for your second aileron servo to be on channel 5 or 6 rather than 6 or 7, which is the normal place for the programming to look:
___ a. Press the 2 basic menu keys (top left and top center)
___ b. Arrow up (top left) until screen says PARA NEXT
___ c. Cursor over (top center) 6 times, until screen says AIL2 6or7
___ d. Press the + key so screen now says 5&6

2. Now you need to actually go activate flaperons.
___ a. Press the 2 advanced keys (bottom left and center)
___ b. Press the up arrow key (top left) until screen says flaperon
___ c. Press the + key so ON blinks instead of INH.

Adjust flaperons and add flap trim (making the channel 6 knob operate your flaps) as desired.

NOTE: if you want to operate your flaperons as flaps on a separate switch and deactivate the channel 6 knob, please return to the FAQ page and read the 2 FAQs for these 2 functions.

How can I do this on an 8U non-super?

To use channel 5 as your second aileron servo on a non-super, you need to use several mixes. You can't actually use flaperons, as it will command 1 and 6 only, so we leave this feature off and create it manually.

First, use a blank pmix to turn off the channel 5 gear switch. Mix channel 5 to channel 5, -100% on each side, switch NULL. Now the gear switch has no effect on channel 5.

Next, use a blank pmix to mix channel 1 to channel 5 -100% on each side, trim ON, link OFF, switch NULL. This gives you aileron function. Test it now. If they do not move like ailerons, figure out which servo needs revering and reverse it.

Now, use a blank pmix to mix channel 6 to channel 5, +100% on each side, link OFF, switch NULL. This will make channel 5 work with channel 6s command. (If you only want down flap and not up and down both, then leave the left % at 0).

Last, use a blank pmix to mix channel 6 to channel 1, +100% on each side, link OFF, switch NULL. This makes the ch 1 aileron servo also work in response to the channel 6 knob.

(Hint: if you want a switch to turn the flaps OFF in flight, set a switch letter and position rather than NULL in mixes 2 and 3).
