Radio System FAQ

How do I program a four-servo delta wing setup? I want to make the two servos in each wing act as both elevator and aileron.

To confirm, you want both of the controls on the left side go the opposite direction from those on the right side when aileron stick is commanded, and all four servos go up and down together for elevator stick. The trim levers should work on all four servos for both elevator and aileron trim.

You can't use the default delta setup in the transmitter, as it uses a maximum of three servos, and you want to use four. Programmable mixers will do the job, but you'll have to spend some time working with them to get the trim settings to work properly with all the servos.

The trick is to use both the Flaperon and Ailevator pre-programmed mixing functions.

  1. Install servos as follows:
    • CH1 = Right aileron (outboard)
    • CH2 = Right elevator (inboard)
    • CH8 = Left elevator (inboard)
    • CH6 = Left aileron (outboard)

  2. Turn on Flaperon mixing. This will slave the CH6 aileron to the aileron stick. Change the signs as needed to get the proper travel directions (opposite motion with aileron stick movement).
    • Open advanced menu
    • Select flaperon
    • Press Cursor to go to "MIX" and make active by turning dial to the left.
    • Press End to return to advanced menu.

  3. Turn on Ailevator mixing. This will slave the CH8 (left elevator) servo to the elevator stick. [If you want the inboard controls to also act as ailerons, use the A-3 and A-4 settings to get proper aileron travel directions. If you just want elevator, set A-3 and A-4 to zero (0%).]
    • Open Advanced menu
    • Select Ailvator
    • Press Cursor to go to "MIX" and make active by turning dial to the left.
    • Set desired percentages and press End to return to advanced menu.

  4. Now to get the entire trailing edge to respond to elevator, you'll need to use a PMIX to mix elevator to flap with it on all the time. (You can't just turn on elevator -> flap mixing (E-F), because this mix is only active from a switch and can't be left ON at all times.) Choose the percentage needed to get the throws desired. Choose sign to get proper direction of outboard control motion.
    • Open Advanced menu
    • Select an open P-mix
    • Press Cursor to go to the 2nd page and make active by turning dial to the left.
    • Set the master to ELEV
    • Set the slave to FLAP
    • Set link to ON
    • Trim is OFF
    • Make the switch assignment NULL so mix is always on: Press Cursor until POSI is selected. Turn dial until reads NULL.
    • Set the desired %s.
    • Press End to return to advanced menu.

  5. Go to Aux-Ch (in the basic menu) and set channel 6 and 8 to NULL.
  6. Go to SERVO screen and make sure everything works properly, then turn on the receiver and check all throws, directions, etc, and...

That's it! Your 4 channel delta wing is ready to fly!
