Find The Perfect Radio:

Radio System FAQ

I am setting up a twin engined-model and want to be able to command the engines separately at certain times. Specifically, I always want the engines to respond only to the throttle stick (never any knobs or other items), and I want the left engine to operate alone if the C switch is in the up position with the right engine at idle; the left and right engines operating together in the C center position, and the right engine to operate alone in the C down position, with the left engine at idle. Can I do this?

Absolutely! Like most things with the 9C, there are many ways to tackle this task. We've given you 3 options here. There are many more.

A. If you do not need all of the extensive pre-set programming in the radio for acro mode, you can simply select a helicopter mode, then plug the second engine servo into channel 6, the collective pitch channel. Now throttle hold will put the channel 3 engine to idle, and an idle up can be used to put the collective pitch channel to idle.

B. The easiest approach we can offer you to do this utilizes 3 of your seven available pmixes.

left engine throttle servo plugged into channel 3
right engine throttle servo plugged into channel 7
  1. Create a pmix mixing THR to 7, 100%, switch C positions center and down:
___Press Mode Button (twice if needed) to open Advanced menu
___Turn Dial up or down and Press to select an open pmix
___Press Cursor Twice and then turn Dial left to activate mix
___Press Cursor Down once to go to MASTER
    ___Turn Dial until reads Throttle
    ___Press Cursor Down to SlaVE
___Turn Dial until reads Aux 1 (channel 7)
___Cursor Down and leave Link OFF, Set Trim ON
___Cursor Down to Switch and select Switch C
___Cursor Down twice to switch POSItion and turn Dial until reads Ctr/Dwn
___Cursor Down, move throttle to bottom, and set % to 100%
___Move throttle to top and set % to 100%
___Cursor DOWN to leave offset 50% and press End twice to close menus

  2. Left throttle operates properly on the throttle stick already with no changes needed, so that is the up switch position for the channel 3 servo. However, the channel 7 servo needs to be brought to idle, or kill, or however you want it set up. We'll assume you want it to idle. To do so, offset mix channel 7:
___Press Mode Button (twice if needed) to open Advanced menu
___Turn Dial up or down and Press to select an open pmix
___Press Cursor Twice and then turn Dial left to activate mix
___Press Cursor Down once to go to MASTER
___Turn Dial until reads OFST (offset)
    ___Press Cursor Down to SlaVE
___Turn Dial until reads Aux 1 (channel 7)
___Cursor Down and leave Link OFF
___Cursor Down to SWitch and select Switch C
___Cursor Down to switch POSItion and turn Dial until reads Up
___Cursor Down, set % to 75% (reverse direction if needed to operate properly)
___Press End twice to close menu

  3. Now, we need to operate the channel 7 throttle but not the channel 3 throttle when we move the throttle stick while in the down position. To do so, we do a pmix of throttle to throttle, -100% each direction, link off, trim off, offset 0%, switch C down.
    ___Turn Dial until reads Throttle
___Cursor Down and leave Link OFF, Trim OFF
___Cursor Down to Switch and select Switch C
___Cursor Down to switch POSItion and turn Dial until reads Down
___Cursor Down, move throttle to bottom, and set % to -100%
___Move throttle to top and set % to -100%
___Cursor DOWN and pull throttle stick AND TRIM to bottom, press and hold DIAL to select this as the "offset to" position
___Press End twice to close menu

  4. We need to turn off the channel 7 knob to avoid its position affecting your right engine. This is easy with the 9C, simply go to the Aux Ch, go to channel 7, and set to null.
___Press Mode Button (twice if needed) to open Basic menu
___Turn Dial up or down and Press to select Aux Ch
___Press Cursor Twice and then turn Dial left until reads CH7 NULL
___Press End twice to close Menu

  5. At this time you will need to reset the throttle trim to 0%.
