Receiver Technical Information
I crashed my plane in a river. I removed it, but it was in the water about 15 minutes. After wiping the servos and receiver clean and dry, I put them into a plastic zip-lock baggy with several silica gel bags to absorb any of the moisture. They sat in the plastic bags with the silica over the winter. It seems to have worked on all but one servo, which when plugged into the Rx, acted flaky and was trying to "find" center constantly.
1. Did I take the appropriate steps to remove the moisture from the servos and Rx?
2. What else could/should I have done?
3. Do I trust the other servos and receiver enough to put them back into another 40 scale size plane?
The best procedure would be to:
- Unplug and remove the servo/receiver.
- Open the case up. If you see any corrosion inside the unit replace it. With electronic devices, once corrosion starts, it's almost impossible to stop, and it will severely degrade performance.
- If no corrosion is present spray off the circuit boards and servo potentiometer using a contact cleaner made specifically for electronics. Activate potentiometer while spraying it. Blow unit dry with canned air and allow to dry opened overnight.
- Reassemble and check each item for any signs of malfunction before using.
