Why are some digital servos listed as for 4.8 volts only?
The Futaba digital servos that are labeled as rated for 4.8V were designed to be used with helicopter gyros (S9250, S9251, S9253), which are limited to 4.8V as that is the gyro rating. Of these, the S9250 is the only servo that might have possible aircraft or car applications and the use of regulated 6.0V with the S9250 should not pose any problems.
As for the remainder of the Futaba digital servos, please follow the guidelines on the packaging, regarding 4.8V to 6V usage.
Please be advised that you MUST use a regulator, if you choose to use 6Volts with a digital servo that does not have a 6V rating on the packaging.
